EU Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner said the reconciliation between India and Pakistan would bring "tremendous benefit" to not only the two countries but also the entire region.
"I am extremely shocked by the explosion in the train going from India to Pakistan killing many people. I send my sincere condolences to the families of the victims," the top official of the 25-nation European body told reporters in New Delhi.
Emphasising that the EU condemns terrorism in every form, she said, "...this incident should not derail any dialogue and reconciliation process" between India and Pakistan.
"The composite dialogue and reconciliation process between India and Pakistan should continue with all efforts. It is very important," she said.
Waldner said the EU was encouraging both India and Pakistan to stay course and not to allow any "spoilers" to derail the process.
"Trust between India and Pakistan is the key to success of regional integrity," she said.
