India has expressed its concern to the Australian government about Dr Haneef who was arrested for his alleged role in terror plot in Britain and whose working visa was revoked by the government of Australia after he was granted bail by the Canberra court that Dr Haneef would be tried 'fairly and justly' under the Australian law.
Navtej Sarna, joint secretary in the ministry of external affairs and official spokesperson told rediff.com that the consular access with Dr Haneef is being maintained and the government would be bearing all the legal expenses of Dr Haneef whose only fault was that his SIM card was used by those who were behind the car bomb explosion. Dr Haneef and other accused persons-all of them doctors come from Bangalore.
Efforts are on to get diplomatic access to the other accused persons in Britain now under custody. The government's comments came hours after his working visa was revoked.
According to intelligence sources Australians were not happy with the manner in which the Bangalore police told them that they cannot have access to any material gathered by them during the investigations and they should come through central bureau of investigations.
"This was a brazen attempt to overawe the Indian police but it did not happen the way they wanted," a senior former police official said.
