In a complete new twist to the ongoing investigation into Kafeel Ahmed's terror links, the Bangalore police now say that there is nothing concrete that has emerged so far.
Police sources say that the ongoing investigation has not produced anything concrete regarding Kafeel's links with any of the terrorist outfits.
Although by no stretch of imagination is the police giving him a clean chit in the London terror plot, Bangalore City Police Commissioner N Achuth Rao said that nothing concrete has emerged regarding his links with the terrorist groups or even the sleeper cells in Karnataka.
Karnataka was being used as a sleeper cell by the terror groups as per Intelligence Bureau reports. Rao, however, added that the investigation would continue and all other angles are being probed.
This statement by the police puts everyone in a fix as to what or who drove Kafeel to carry out such an attack (if at all he did it).
Police sources say that he may have come in contact with some radical groups during his college days and may have started thinking that he had to do something for his community, which he always believed was under threat.
Moreover, his browsing habits reveal that he used to view Web sites pertaining to Al Qaeda commentaries and atrocities against the Muslim world.
The extensive viewing of such sites could have had an impact on his mind, which finally drove him to such madness.
IB sources also claim that a close look at the London terror attack would only reveal that it is not the work of any major terrorist group.
While comparing it to attacks carried out by terrorist outfits, this attack lacked the planning and was executed in a very immature fashion.
While weighing all these factors, it seems as though there was no terrorist group behind this attack. It seems as though the attack could have been planned by Kafeel and a group of his associates, the IB says.
Regarding the videos of Al Qaeda commentaries and the Daniel Pearl execution, which were found on the hard disk seized from Kafeel's residence, the police say that merely being in possession of videos does not make him a member of a terror outfit.
The police however added that they are awaiting the full contents of the hard disk, which at present is being decoded by the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Sciences Laboratory.
The police said that experts are also analysing the CDs and mobile phone recovered from Kafeel's residence at Banashankari in Bangalore.
