The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die amidst uproarious scenes on Friday as the Left parties and Telugu Desam Party stalled the House protesting against lathicharge on Left activists in Hyderabad and other places, who picketed district collectorates as part of their 'Bhoo Poratam' (land struggle) on Thursday.
As soon as the Assembly commenced its sitting at 8.30 am, Speaker K R Suresh Reddy disallowed the adjournment notices given by the opposition parties.
Left and TDP members were on their feet demanding that their adjournment motion on the police lathicharge should be taken up for discussion.
As the Left and TDP members rushed towards the podium raising slogans, the speaker appealed to them to go back to their seats.
As his pleas fell on deaf ears, the speaker adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
However, when the House re-assembled an hour later, unruly scenes continued with the agitated Left and TDP members remaining in the well of the House, raising slogans and displaying placards.
TRS members also protested on another issue.
Sensing that the Left and TDP members were in no mood to allow the House to function, the speaker quickly read out the 'statistics' of the brief monsoon session, which had commenced on July 16 and adjourned the House sine die.
