A city court on Monday granted bail to Telangana Rashtra Samithi legislator K Lingaiah, who was arrested by the Central Crime Station Police on April 27 in connection with the sensational human trafficking scam, unearthed after the arrest of BJP parliamentarian Babubhai Katara in New Delhi.

The XII Additional Metropolitan Magistrate granted bail to the TRS legislator after hearing defence and prosecution counsels. Lingaiah was lodged in the Cherlapalli Jail.

Lingaiah reportedly confessed that he met Rashid, the alleged kingpin in the trafficking scam, who surrendered before the CCS police on May 3 and admitted having obtained a fake passport in the name of his wife for a Gujarati woman to send her abroad.

He also said he introduced another TRS legislator S Bapu Rao, who also surrendered before the police on May 10, for his alleged involvement in the trafficking scam, to Rashid.

The TRS legislators would be released from the jail by this evening, the sources said.
