The 300-km Jammu-Srinagar national highway, which remained closed for 10 days due to avalanches and landslides, reopened on Friday, much to the relief of the people of the state.
After clearing blockades at Panthal, about 160 km from Jammu, authorities initially allowed all stranded vehicles at different points on the highway to move towards their destinations in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley, a police spokesman said.
About 100 passenger buses and light motor vehicles were allowed to move from Jammu to Srinagar, he said.
Authorities may not allow vehicular traffic to ply from Srinagar to Jammu on Saturday in order to clear the rush of stranded passengers from Jammu to the Valley.
