Two police inspectors were on Wednesday transferred to the control room to facilitate a free and fair inquiry into the firing on a mob after the bomb blast at Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad on May 18.

Falaknuma Inspector Sudhakar and Mughalpura Inspector Ramachandra Reddy, who were in charge at the firing spot, were transferred by the city Police Commissioner Balvinder Singh, who set up a Special Investigation Team headed by senior IPS officer Harish Kumar Gupta to go into the firing, according to official sources.

It may be recalled that the police had resorted to firing to control a stone-pelting mob in the aftermath of the blast. Five people were killed in it apart from the nine killed in the blast.

The All India Majlis Iteehadi-e-Muslimeen alleged that police had opened fire without exhausting the other options like firing rubber bullets, using water cannons and lobbing tear gas shells, killing innocent people. Even if the police had to open fire, they should fire only below the knee, the party said.
