K'taka polls: Kumaraswamy, Revanna file nominations

Over 200 aspirants, including former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and his elder brother and ex-minister H D Revanna, on Monday filed their nomination papers for the first phase of assembly polls in the state on May 10.

While Kumaraswamy filed his nominations from Ramanagara, Revanna did so from Holenarasipura. Others who filed their papers included former ministers N Cheluvarayaswamy (Janata Dal-Secular candidate from Nagamangala), B N Bachchegowda (Hoskote), who recently crossed over to the Bharatiya Janata Party from the JD-S and A Krishnappa (Congress candidate from K R Puram), election officials said.

Till now, 214 nominations have been received, with reports from some more constituencies yet to be received. Wednesday is the last date for filing nominations.

Meanwhile, 17 criminal cases were booked today in different parts of the state following the violation of model code of conduct, Chief Election Officer of Karnataka Election Commission M N Vidyashankar said.
