Heavy rains in AP claim 36

The death toll in the devastating heavy rains in Hyderabad and other districts of Andhra Pradesh during the last 24 hours has mounted to 36.

While Hyderabad was the worst hit with 11 deaths, Krishna followed with eight and West Godavari with five deaths. Three deaths were reported from Medak, two each Chittoor Nalgonda Nizamabad and Visakhapatnam and one from Karimnagar district.
 
Situation in Hyderabad was worse as heavy rains continued to lash even after 24 hours after it started.
 
Conditions in Nadeem Colongy and Toli Chowki area had worsened to the extent that the authorities had to deploy boats to evacuate people and move them to temporary relief camps.
 
People were also being evacuated from Ashok Nagar and other low-lying areas adjoining the drain in to which the excess water was being released from Hussain Sagar lake.

VVSK Sharma, commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation said that the water level in Hussain Sagar lake in the middle of Hyderabad had crossed the danger mark. While the lake had the capacity of 515 feet, the water level had reached 514 feet.
 
1500 people have so far been evacuated to the relief camps, the revenue minister Dharmana Prasad Rao said.
