Curfew was lifted in Kathua and Samba towns in Jammu on Tuesday following the return of normalcy in the areas that were rocked by violence over the Amarnath land row.

The curfew has been lifted in two towns, but police and paramilitary forces will continue keep vigil in these towns.

Curfew was imposed in Samba on July 2 and in Kathua the next day following incidents of violence and clashes between the police and demonstrators.

Earlier, the curfew was relaxed for three hours in Bhaderwah town from 10 am on Tuesday, sources said authorities may consider further relaxation later in the evening.

The curfew was imposed in the hill town of Bhaderwah on July 2 after 18 people were injured in clashes and grenade attack by unidentified militants on protesters, demanding revocation of land transfer order.

In Jammu city, curfew was relaxed on Tuesday, initially from 6 am to 12 pm and later extended up to 8 pm. It was relaxed for varying periods during the past few days since its imposition on July 1.

Meanwhile, Sangarsh Samiti, spearheading agitation demanding the cancellation of the land transfer revocation order in Jammu, suspended the bandh for one week.

Sangharsh Samiti convener Leela Karan Sharma said it would hold a demonstration in front of Raj Bhawan on Wednesday.
