Vidhan Soudha, the seat of power in Karnataka, will be back in business, with the three- day Special Session of the Karnataka Legislative getting underway on Wednesday.
B S Yeddyurappa, the Chief Minister, will seek the trust vote on the floor of the House on Friday on June 6.
Governor of Karnataka Rameshwar Thakur, who initially refused to deliver the special address prior to the trust vote, will now address a joint session of the Legislative Assembly and Council. Later, Yeddyurappa will seek the trust vote.
Earlier, there was confusion over the Constitutional procedure with the Governor saying that Yeddyurappa would have to first prove the majority on the floor of the House before the special address.
The BJP, too, had agreed with the Governor . However, Article 176 of the Indian Constitution clearly says that the business of the House can be carried on only once the special address is rendered.
The BJP anticipated trouble from the Opposition and decided to persuade the Governor yet again. The Governor, after a long discussion with both Yeddyurappa and legal experts, agreed to deliver the special address first.
On Thursday, Jagadish Shettar, senior BJP MLA will be elected as Speaker of the House and on Friday Yeddyurappa will prove his majority.
The BJP had won 110 of the 224 seats in the Legislative Assembly. They had fallen three short of a majority. However they made up the numbers by roping in six independents, taking their strength up to 116.
