The Nationalist Congress Party on Friday issued a show cause notice to Vinayak Mete, who has claimed responsibility for the attack on the residence of Loksatta editor Kumar Ketkar, by his organisation Shiv Sangram .

NCP state general secretary Gurunath Kulkarni told PTI, "The show cause notice has been served to Mete. The party has asked him to reply within seven days."

Kulkarni said that Mete was a party office-bearer and if he was using the party's name for his own purposes, then he will not be spared for his action.

"If he is found guilty or failed to reply, he will be removed from the party post," Kulkarni added.

"There are several complaints against Mete's organisation- Shiv Sangram. This has adversely affected the party's name," he said.

Loksatta Editor-in-chief Kumar Ketkar's residence was attacked, for criticising the Congress-NCP led Democratic Front government, for misusing Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji's name instead of solving the state's problems.

Over 70 activists of Shiv Sangram had pelted stones and damaged the windowpanes of Katkar's house.

They also burnt copies of Loksatta and smeared black paint at the entrance door of the house. Seven people have been arrested in connection with the case.
