Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met Priyanka in the remote forests of Karnataka on Tuesday. But this Priyanka is not his sister but a new born baby of a tribal couple, who he met as he started his five-day tour of the poll-bound state.
Born in a clinic at the time of the Congress leader's visit, the child has become 'special' to the couple's family.
Basawan Raju, the shy father of the infant, said, "We have named our girl 'Priyanka' because we want her to be a leader and set an example for others".
Deepak MG, the resident doctor of the Vivekanand Tribal Clinic, where the child was born, said, "It is a coincidence that Uma (child's 25-year-old mother) gave birth to the child during Rahul's visit".
Raju and his wife belong to the tribal community of the area and this was their third child. "We were expecting a son but the fact that she was blessed by Rahul Gandhi has changed our perception towards the girl child," said Raju.
Rahul also met other patients at the clinic run by a charitable organisation.
