Bharatiya Janata Party chief Rajnath Singh has blamed the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre for the rise in terrorism in the country.
Singh, who is in Bangalore to campaign for his party, told media persons on Sunday that terrorism had seen a steep rise under the UPA government and nothing was being done to resolve the issue. He also said that the number of sleeper cells across the country had increased to 5000.
Quoting a report of the United States State Department, Singh pointed that India is the worst-affected country by terrorism.
Further Singh took on Finance Minister Chidambaram on his loan waiver proposal in the Union Budget. Singh said the finance minister had assured that Rs 60,000 crore would be granted towards loan waiver. However, the requirement is just Rs 23,000 crore, the BJP national president pointed out while also adding that Chidambaram was trying to misguide the public.
On the BJP's plans for Karnataka, Singh said that he is sure that the party would form the government on its own and the question of a coalition did not arise. We will seek mandate of the people and the key areas will be development and also the betrayal by the Janata Dal-Secular. The JD-S had pulled down the one week-old BJP government led by B S Yeddyurappa in Karnataka.
When questioned about a second chief ministerial candidate in case Yeddyurappa lost the elections to S Bangarappa (Samajwadi Party) in Shikaripura, Singh said that question did not arise. We are confident that Yeddyurappa will win and become chief minister, he added.
