The Congress on Tuesday attempted to drag Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani and the saffron party into the Malegaon blast case controversy, accusing the BJP's prime ministerial candidate and the party of making the 'first political interference' in the terror case.
"The internal security of the country is today threatened by two As -- Advani and Abhinav Bharat," senior party leader M Veerappa Moily told reporters, alleging that the outsourcing of terror has become the 'new cult with some of the outfits of BJP'.
Accusing the BJP's PM candidate of attempting to drive a wedge between the Army and the police, Moily sought to dismiss charges of torture of Lieutenant Colonel Shrikant Purohit, an accused in the blast case.
"The moment Lt-Col Purohit was arrested, the Army authorities sent him along with a senior colonel. The same officer was present during interrogation and continues to be involved even now," Moily said.
The motive behind the charges of torture are to "get more votes at the cost of national security," Moily said, predicting an 'electoral waterloo' for the saffron party.
He claimed that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief K S Sudarshan's refusal to clarify the organisation's stand on the Malegaon blast issue has "driven the final nail in the theory of communalisation of terror by the BJP".
The Congress, he said, was very much concerned as the tentacles of Abhinav Bharat, the right wing outfit accused in the blast, "were spreading across the borders in view of reports that its members met Bangladeshi nationals in Kolkata in February this year".
