Infiltration bid foiled along LoC

In the eighth infiltration bid from across the border this month, a group of five militants tried to intrude into the country on Sunday, an attempt foiled by the army.

Five militants entered the Indian territory from across the Line of Control in Chajjar forward post of Mankote belt in Poonch district on Sunday afternoon and they fled back as army challenged them, official sources said.

It was the sixth infiltration bid in the past seven days and the eighth one in this month, they added.

As the militants reached between LoC and the border fencing, troops of 2/8 Grenadiers guarding the LoC laid a cordon and launched an operation to track them down. During the exchange of fire between the two sides, the militants fled back to Pakistan side. They was no casualty on Indian side.

Of the six foiled infiltration bids, 3 Hizbul MujahideenĀ militants were killed in Peerbadashwar in Rajouri district on Saturday, which was preceded by the killing of a militant at the same area on October 15.

While on October 14, a militant was killed, along LoC in Kanchi post in Poonch district, one was killed the previous day in Noushera belt and another on October 11 in Keri forward area in Rajouri district.

On October 9, troops foiled an infiltration bid in Keri sector, however, a jawan was killed.

Similarly, on October 1, the the Border Security Force foiled an infiltration bid along IB at tent post in Kanachak sub-sector of Jammu district as Pakistani Rangers opened small arms firing to push in a group of militants.
