Poll is not the way out of present impasse: Mirwaiz

Chairman of All Party Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has said that political parties will not interfere with the election process and instead continue their people-to-people campaign.

Speaking to rediff.com from his residence in Srinagar, Farooq said that the issue would be debated on next Friday during the Hurriyat meeting in the Valley headquarters to take a view on the developments that have taken place since Sunday afternoon.

"Elections is not the way out of the present impasse. We were expecting more confidence buiulding measures before moving forward," Mirwaiz said.

When asked to comment on the opening of some of the major routes between India and Pakistan like Poonch Rajouri and other sectors, Mirwaiz said, "Basic issues have been forgotten. There is no violence on the streets of the state," he said.

Hurriyat will meeting on Monday to take stock of the situation on developments and the boycott call given by other faction of Hurriyat Conference headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani after the Election Commission of India announced the seven-phase election to elect a new state assembly.
