Anxious relatives staged a demonstration near the inquiry counter at Howrah railway station on Friday night, in the absence of any information about the number of passengers killed or injured in the derailment of 18 bogies of Coromandel Express, near Jajpur Road railway station in Orissa.
"We don't have any list of passengers killed or injured. Railways have not provided any information till midnight," a worried relative of a passenger traveling in the train said.
Hundreds of people gathered in front of the main inquiry counter at Howrah railway station to get information about the incident. They also wanted to know if any relief train has been arranged to take the relatives to Jajpur Road.
Chaos persisted for a longer period in the absence of any list of those killed or injured in the derailment. The relatives alleged that no railway helpline was functioning properly to give information about the incident.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal government rushed Sunderbans Affairs minister Kanti Ganguly and two Communist Party of India Marxist Parliamentarians -- Amitava Nandi and Sujan Chakraborty -- to Jajpur Road.
"We would leave for Jajpur by road tonight," Chakraborty said.
