Speaker admits no-confidence motion

West Bengal Speaker Hashim Abdul Halim on Friday admitted a no-confidence motion against the ruling Left Front. It will be discussed later during the present session.

The motion, jointly brought by Opposition leader Atish Sinha and state Congress chief Somen Mitra, was admitted after ensuring that more than 30 Congress members, the minimum number required, were present in the house.

Halim read out the no-confidence motion immediately after question hour. Of the total 87 Congress legislators, 54 were present in the assembly.

The speaker said the date for the discussion would be announced after talks with Opposition and treasury leaders.
