Last updated on: April 15, 2009 14:03 IST

Noted film director Mani Ratnam was hospitalised in Chennai's Apollo Hospital last night following breathing difficulty and dizziness. He also complained of discomfort in the chest. Specialists, including cardiologists, were attending on him, hospital and family sources said.

The condition of Ratnam, who is under observation, is now stable. He will be discharged after a day's stay in the hospital, sources said.

The 52-year-old director had survived a heart attack in 2004 when he was filming the multi-starrer bi-lingual Yuva. Ratnam is currently involved in a project starring National Award winner Vikram, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, among others, titled Raavan.

Mani Ratnam is known for taking up controversial issues like the Bombay riots in Bombay and terrorism-related subjects in RojaDil Se and Kannathil Muthamittal.
