Lyricist Gulshan Bawra dies at 72

Popular Hindi movie lyricist Gulshan Bawra who wrote the lyrics for the songs 'Yaari hai imaan mera yaar meri zindagi' (Zanjeer [ Images ]) for which he won a Filmfare award, and 'Mere desh ki dharti' (Upkar), passed away at his Pali Hill residence in Mumbai [ Images ] on Friday. He was 72.

Bawra has to his credit about 240 songs, half of them composed by R D Burman, in a career spanning 42 years.

His last hit 'Le pappiyaan jhappiyaan paale hum' for Haqeeqat in 1995 was also a controversial one.
