Oye is a good film

July 06, 2009 11:46 IST

Sidhdharth has been experimenting with new directors for quite some time. He has once again come out with a Telugu film- Oye directed by Anand Ranga, a first time director.

Oye got a lot of publicity because of the presence of the heroine, Shamili, who as a child won the National Award for Best Actress for Mani Ratnam's Anjali. Oye is her debut as an adult.

Moving on, the Oye's screenplay looks like it has been influenced by Mani Ratnam's Telugu film Geethanjali. While the first half focuses on the characters, the second half narrates a touching tale. Though the first half engages with a good mix of light comedy, romance and good songs, the second half drags a bit with forced tragic situations. Somehow the film fails to make an impact in the climax sequence as in the case of Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar's directed Kannada film Amruthadhaare or Geethanjali -- films that also dealt with the same theme of the heroine affected with terminal cancer.

The story goes like this: Uday loves Sandhya, an introvert, at first sight. Soon, he learns that his lover is afflicted with cancer and her days are numbered. He tries to please her by trying to fulfill all her wishes. The entire second half is devoted to Uday's attempts to make Sandhya happy.

Sidhdharth suits the role perfectly. He shows a lot of energy and gives a brilliant performance. Though Shamili is good, she does not match up to the brilliance of Sidhdharth, which is a surprise. Comedy artists Sunil and Ali have the potential to score well in comedy but in this film they are not up to the mark. Tamil actor Napolean and Pradeep Rawat shine in their roles.

Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is good. The songs are visually strong strong too. Cinemetographer Vijaya Chakravarthy has done a neat job.

All in all, a good film.
