June 11, 2009 12:23 IST

After two and half years in the making, Selvaraghavan's Tamil magnum opus Aayirathil Oruvan is set to hit the screens by the first week of August.

The film stars Karthi, Reema Sen and Andrea. This is Karthi's second release after the much acclaimed Paruthiveeran.

At a meeting with the press, Selvaraghavan said, "It is the most difficult genre to work on though I felt more comfortable while penning the script. But things were much different when it went on the floors. Filming this project with 2000 junior artists from various regional backgrounds was the most risky bet that a filmmaker could take.

He continues, "Though the time we took to shoot the film was long it, however, is not a long film. The running time is merely 120 minutes. Although the genre of fantasy-adventure is well known in world cinema, it is something new to Tamil film industry as no one has attempted it here till now.

"Earlier the film's budget was planned at Rs 15 crore but finally it mounted up to an unexpected Rs 32 crore," concluded Selvaraghavan.

Karthi said, "As soon as I had completed Paruthiveeran, I got a call from Selvaraghavan who wanted to make a romantic film with me. Later, he found it to be cliched and geared up for this unparalleled genre. It's a beautiful film that will entertain the audience. Kids will enjoy it as well."

Andrea, the heroine, who was present at the press meet said, "It isn't just a film for me, but a revival of my film career." Andrea made her debut in Gowtham Menon's Pachaikili Muthucharan, but has not been seen afterwards.

Parthiban, the veteran actor said, "I am not supposed to reveal anything about my character. Indeed I have not essayed such an interesting role earlier in my films."

It was a challenging film for music Director GV Prakash. "As the film's genre happens to be new, the music too will be innovatively different. We've tried using some ancient instruments from the world of music. The album has 10 songs and additional feature would be the background score."

PB Srinivas, Vijay Yesudas, Karthik, Nithya Shree Mahadevan, Andrea Jeremiah, G.V Prakash Kumar, Dhanush and Aishwarya Dhanush have sung for the film.
