First Look: Vijay's Vettaikaran

June 23, 2009 15:41 IST

Vettaikaran (Hunter) was MGR's a very popular film. Now for his 49th film, Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay is borrowing the title from the man who still rules the hearts of the people of Tamil Nadu.

Like all his earlier films, this also will be a typical Vijay film with all the masala in the right proportions. Like Rajniknath, Vijay chooses to stick to the formula that made him a mass hero but the question now is, with realistic and rustic films like Subramaniapuram and Pasanga ruling the roost, is there a place for mindless entertainers?

Vijays' last film Villu directed by Prabhu Deva with Nayanthara as his female lead did badly at the box office. With thousands of fans all over the state, Vijay was expected to announce his political ambitions on Monday -- his 35th birthday -- but instead, he chose to start two IT training centres for the underprivileged.

Anushka, who is riding high on the huge success of Arundhati, is the heroine of Vettaikaran. The film is produced by AVM Balu and directed by Babu Sivam.
