Is Aerosmith rocker the next American Idol judge?

It looks like Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler could be adding some rock star glamour to the American Idol judging panel.

The 62-year-old singer has said that he is "probably going to be a judge on American Idol," TMZ online reported.

"I'm doing it. What do you think? I'm doing it," he told the website on Saturday following a concert in Las Vegas. But the front man hinted later on a radio show Kid Kraddick in the Morning, that there were still details of his deal to be worked out.

"This beautiful girl from Fox came up to me and made an offer. I honoured her offer and it's just a work in progress," he said. "They mentioned it and I listened, and we're on tour, so I gotta give it some time," he added.

When asked about his judging style, Tyler said, "I would be honest to the ones that think they have it, and I would be truthful in the sense that if, to those that have it, they don't have it yet enough. And I would tell them exactly why, as I see it."

However Fox honchos Kevin Reilly and Peter Rice denied that anything has been decided. "The only thing I can tell you with absolute certainty right now is that no one has signed a deal yet on either side of the camera to join American Idol next year that wasn't on it last year," said Rice.

Ellen DeGeneres quit the talent competition last week after just one season and fellow judge Kara DioGuardi is also rumoured to be out.

With Simon Cowell's position still vacant after he left to start work on the US version of X Factor, Randy Jackson, 54, looks set to be the only remaining familiar face on the panel.

Celebrity names like Jennifer Lopez, Elton John and Jessica Simpson have been doing the rounds to fill up the judges panel.
