Bindaas is enjoyable

February 08, 2010 17:23 IST

A scene from BindaasFilmmakers in Telugu never tire of weaving stories around family feuds -- be they faction or political.

Bindaas is another in that genre though not told in a serious vein.  Veeru Potla scripts a tale filled with enough wit to regale the audience.

His directorial debut seems to have the right casting too.  The film also has a smorgasbord of various ingredients like action, humour, bit of romance etc all in the right proportion. But be warned -- there's nothing new about the film.

Seshadri Naidu (JP Reddy) and Mahendra Naidu (Ahuti Prasad) are on warring terms as only one of them gets to be an MLA. They are forever at each other's throats, killing people. In this scenario, enters Ajay (Manchu Manoj) who is actually Mahendra Naidu's brother's son but is not given due treatment by the family. He tries to bring peace between the two families. In the process, however, he falls in love with Girija (Sheena).

The ensemble cast has done well. There is enough humour in the lines delivered by comedians Brahmanandam, M S Narayana and Sunil Manoj to keep us entertained.

Though the plot is not original, humour and good acting particularly by Manoj make this fare watchable. Direction-wise Veeru has done a decent job. As is usual, he has put in enough songs to meet the commercial demands. Music by Bobo Sashi is full of energy especially the Surangani number which has a Goan touch.

But this is Manoj film all the way. He is sprightly and spontaneous. His stunts and dancing are good making him really bindaas in the movie. Newcomer Sheena looks rather young but is pretty and charming and shows potential. Veterans like JP Reddy, Ahuti Prasad and Subbaraju are good too.

All in all, Bindaas is one of those films which provides entertainment unlimited but with a cliched storyline. Watch it for Manoj.
