Leonard Nimoy, who rose to international fame as the logic-driven human-alien Spock in the iconic Star Trek TV series and movies, passed away on February 27.

The 83-year-old veteran was suffering from a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

While his closely-guarded funeral, held in Los Angeles on March 1 and attended by family and close friends, was overshadowed by his longtime pal and Star Trek costar William Shatner's no-show, fans gathered in California to pay tribute to him.

Nimoy, who had made his illness public last year, attributed it to years of smoking, a habit he had given up three decades earlier.

He had been rushed to the hospital earlier in the week.
