Ranbir's Tamasha moments on celluloid!

Happy birthday, Ranbir!

Tamasha is a special word in an actor's dictionary.

It can imply a lot many things -- creating a scene, staging acts in public, playing the fool or pretty much anything that leads to collective hoo-ha.

It's also the title of Ranbir Kapoor's eagerly anticipated drama directed by Imtiaz Ali and co-starring Deepika Padukone, wherein he plays a troupe artist caught in a vortex of role-playing and reality.

But it's not the first time the gifted actor played to the gallery.

Here's a compilation of his striking tamasha-filled antics on the silver screen.

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani

Rajkumar Santoshi's bubby rom-com is a show reel for RK Jr's comic prowess.

Between juggling many a hilarious disguise to attract wholehearted attention, he tickles in his version of a 9 to 5 job as the ladoo-generating halwai with a gamcha super cape, no less.

Saawariya

Ranbir Kapoor's much-hyped towel dropping scene got chopped off by the Indian censors but the overseas audience and YouTube-savvy got a good look at the youngster's bare bum in the song Jab Se Tere Naina.

A lot of things about the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-helmed debut Saawariya sank without trace but his derriere is certainly not one of them.

Besharam

There's no towel involved but one gets ample view of his butt cleavage during a raunchy shower dance of his most panned movie so far, Besharam.

As the title suggests, Ranbir plays a brazen lout who takes pride in his uncouth lifestyle and clumsy actions.

Anjaana Anjaani

Who knew Mithunda's I am a Disco Dancer could have such suggestive connotations?

Ranbir goes all out to highlight them in Anjaana Anjaani's wacky gay bar striptease sequence.

Despite his best efforts, the date flick about a suicidal pair with an adventure-themed bucket list didn't get any love from the critics.

Bachna Ae Haseeno

While in Kal Ho Naa Ho, Shah Rukh Khan counsels Saif Ali Khan on how to win the girl's heart in six days with his ridiculous 'cheh din ladki in' philosophy, Ranbir's lecherous BFF Hiten Paintal teaches him how to lose a girl by throwing a kinky bachelor's party.

Quick to act on his wild advice -- Vaasna ka ashleel pradarshan -- a tiger-print boxers-clad RK transforms his pad into a shady nightclub, partying hard around hired company in the hope to break off his engagement with fiancée Bipasha Basu.

Barfi!

Ranbir's endearing portrayal in and as Barfi! won him tremendous accolade. Bulk of this appeal lies in the uniqueness of the deaf and mute character he plays.

There's nothing conventional about Barfi's methods. Like when he needs money for his father's medical treatment, he sets about robbing a bank.

The outcome is a goofy sidesplitting cat and mouse game between the amateur thief and a lumbering local cop, straight out of Charlie Chaplin's The Adventurer.

Bombay Velvet

Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet may spell disappointment in capital letters but it's not without its moments of gratification.

Ranbir Kapoor's audacious Bad Santa escape route is followed by lighting up a cigarette, bumping off a bunch of lackeys before taking off his costume and unleashing his wrath on Karan Johar's henchmen in a no holds barred melee of grit and gunfire.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

A nomadic soul, quite like the one in Tamasha, Ranbir's Bunny in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani lives the dream life.

But before it gets to that part and the romantic complications it triggers, the movie focuses on the spirited, happy-go-lucky facet of his personality as well as the strong bond he shares with his pals.

An altercation with some brawny locals in Manali ensues in a slapstick chase for him and gang, one that most certainly shatters the peace of the fun-loving tourist town.

Rockstar

A troubled musician coping with fame, alcoholism, heartbreak, Ranbir's volatile personality in Rockstar is a recipe for disaster.

Be it the publically documented hungama of brush-ins with the law or stalking the out-of-league classmate, reckless Jordan and his penchant for tamasha go hand in hand.
