Is Sonakshi a better action heroine than Deepika?

Bollywood's damsels in distress no longer need a hero to rescue them. They can pack a fine punch all by themselves.

This week, we have Sonakshi Sinha to show us how it's done in Akira.

Before we watch this actress kick butt, let's take a look at heroines in action mode in recent years.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka has done plenty of action in the movies.

From playing bodyguard to Abhishek Bachchan in Drona to doing her own stunts in the Don series, Ms Chopra has proved time and again that action is no longer just for the guys.

In her last release Jai Gangaajal, Priyanka played the role of a cop, who takes on a corrupt system all by herself.

Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone

Dips plays a double role in Chandni Chowk To China, and one of the characters is that of a Chinese girl named Meow Meow.

Though the film did not work at the box office, Deepika pulled off the action role quite effortlessly.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif

We saw Katrina jump off buildings with Salman Khan in Ek Tha Tiger, and do a lot more in Phantom.

Kangana Ranaut

As a mutant in Krrish 3, Kangana showed off her action moves and how! Not to forget her bandit queen act in Revolver Rani.

The way she bulldozes her way through every fight scene, high jumps and shooting sequence with her revolver is commendable. The film may have tanked but Kangana got everyone talking about her action avatar.

Rani Mukerji

Rani Mukerji

As inspector Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani, Rani Mukerji is ruthless and a delight to watch as she bashes up the bad guys left, right and center. She's especially cool in the climax when she takes on Tahir Raj Bhasin's villainous mastermind character.

Taapsee Pannu

She may have played a cameo in Akshay Kumar starrer Baby but Taapsee Pannu was bang on when it came to action.

Her hand-to-hand combat with Sushant Singh was especially good.

Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit, as Rajjo in Gulaab Gang, proved that she's not just a dancing diva but an action diva as well!

The actress trained herself in martial art forms like Shaolin Kung Fu and Pekiti-Tirsia Kali for the role.

Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya has had her fair share of action sequences on screen. While she played a thief in Dhoom 2 with Hrithik Roshan, her sword fighting sequence from Jodha Akbar is still remembered.

And why you seen her in The Last Legion?

Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor

Kareena got the bad guys with her glamorous mujra song as well as action in Agent Vinod.

We hear she trained so hard for the action sequences that she ended up spraining her neck once.

Bipasha Basu

Her role may have been short but Bipasha played a tough cool cop in the first two installments of Dhoom.
