Priyanka Chopra left her fashionable avatar behind to take on a deglam role in Kaminey and dance around in a nine yard Maharashtrian-styled sari, called the navaari. The pretty actress talks to Patcy N about the film, and her chemistry with co-star Shahid Kapoor.

Over to Priyanka:

Do you think this is the right time to release a film like Kaminey?

I think this is an exciting time because people are ready to see different kinds of films. Besides, Kaminey is a very entertaining film. No one is straight in the film -- everyone has grey shades. And to get anything, you have to take a U turn in life. You will be surprised throughout the film.

'It was a big challenge to play a Maharashtrian girl'

Tell us about your character in the film.

I play a college girl of 23 years of age. She is very busy, and does not have time to take care of her looks and apply make up. Her only aim in life is to bunk her lectures and visit her boyfriend's college or stay in his hotel, and eventually marry him.

How similar is your character Sweety to you?

We are very similar, and different too. We are both outspoken and fun loving. Her eyes are full of innocence and honesty. She cannot hide something that is wrong. She is very good at heart. These are my qualities as well.

The difference is that we're from different cultural backgrounds. I hope all my Maharashtrian friends and fans like my portrayal of a Marathi girl. It was a big challenge for me.

'Vishal Bhardwaj means Kaminey to me'

What does Kaminey mean to you?

Vishal Bhardwaj (laughs).

And, who do you think, is the biggest kamina?

I think after Vishalji, I am the biggest Kamina! But if we categorise, many more will join the band.

What was the most difficult scene?

Most of my scenes are with Guddu, not with Charlie so I did not have to face both characters together except for one scene. That was very difficult so I can imagine what Shahid must have gone through portraying two different characters.

'When I have something say about my private life, I will announce it'

You have been linked with Shahid. What do you have to about that?

People will talk, we can't stop that. But when I have something say, I will announce it.

There is a song on AIDS in the film. Are you open to doing a film on it too if the need arises?

I have always taken up my social responsibilities. If I get a role which will have something to offer to me as an actor as well, I will surely take it up.
