Surprisingly, this year's Onam will not have any films from the two Big Ms -- Mohanlal and Mammootty.

Even Suresh Gopi does not have a release, which means advantage Jayaram, who is flying high with two big hits, Veruthe Oru Bharya and Bhagyadevatha, besides of course the blockbuster Twenty 20, which starred almost the whole of Malayalam film fraternity.

The film in question is Kana Kanmani which marks the entry of Moserbaer into the Malayalam film industry after their successful beginning in Tamil. Mammootty's distribution company Play House distributes Kana Kanmani.

Jayaram teams up again with director Akku Akbar and scenarist K Gireeshkumar, who incidentally formed the winning trio with the hero in Veruthe Oru Bharya for Kana Kanmani.

Padmapriya plays Jayaram's wife in Kana Kanmani and the couple has a daughter, played by Baby Nivedita.

"The film is essentially about the happenings within a family. The incidents take place in a span of around ten days, when they are on a vacation. There is some suspense element involved in the story which we can't reveal," says Akku.

Though Roy (Jayaram), an architect and Maya (Padmapriya) belong to two different castes, the fact doesn't affect their relationship.

But a vacation where they face some unexpected incidents put their relationship to the test.

"In Veruthe Oru Bharya we focused on the agony of a housewife that often gets ignored and worse still, she had an egoistic husband back home. Here, our focus is on the importance of a child in a family," says K Gireeshkumar.

Jayaram says, "since I am joining hands with Akku and Gireesh once again, the expectations are going to be high. So we have decided to narrate a highly genuine theme which is meant for family audiences."

Padmapriya, who has quite a few releases including Pokkisham in Tamil besides Pazhassi Raja and Kutty Sranku in Malayalam, makes it clear that she is generally not too keen to accept the routine housewife roles.

"But I am really happy to be a part of Kana Kanmani, as the story is a thriller and at the same time, a family saga as well," she says.

Biju Menon, Nedumudi Venu and Vijayaraghavan comprise the rest of the cast.

Vipin Mohan is the cinematographer of the film whose music has been composed by Shyam Dharman and lyrics by Sarat Vayalar.
