Five reasons why we can't wait for My Name Is Khan
The air of excitement was palpable at the press conference to unveil the first promo of Karan Johar's film My Name Is Khan, on Wednesday in Mumbai.
The main attraction, of course, being the two stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, who will be seen together on screen after almost a decade in 2001's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Which makes it the number one reason why we can't wait to watch the movie.
Plus, Shah Rukh boasts that the film will have "three times more chemistry than Raj and Simran did in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge."
As for Kajol, who plays Mandira, a Hindu single mother in San Francisco, she says working with Shah Rukh has spoilt her. "Shah Rukh is like a bad habit," she grins.
'Nicest love story'
The second reason is supplied by the leading man himself, who says that My Name Is Khan "is a different film altogether. It is one of the nicest love stories I have acted in."
That's saying quite a lot since SRK is known to have acted in some of the biggest romantic hits.
Unique angle
Though New York and Kurbaan dealt with terrorism too, My Name Is Khan, which is set against the backdrop of America's 9/11 terror attacks, promises to be different.
For one, Shah Rukh plays a man suffering from the Asperger syndrome, a form of autism and whose disability at the Los Angeles International Airport has far-reaching consequences.
The KJO factor
Karan Johar has given us good films Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna as a director, and produced a number of feel good films like Wake Up Sid and Dostana.
So directing his two favourite people will probably result in magic. As Shah Rukh puts it, "My Name Is Khan has the Karan Joharishness in it which I love. We have evolved as actors and people through this film. Generally, when three of us work together, we don't have to say much to each other. We have that kind of understanding, though this time we did discuss on how we could improvise more."
Will the king reign?
Shah Rukh is not called the Badshah of Bollywood for nothing.
Any film of his makes news, whether you like it or not.
Plus, he has a dual role -- that of a producer in My Name Is Khan. So will he succeed? We'll just have to wait until the Valentine's Day weekend in February 12 to find out.
