Young hero Prithviraj's new Malayalam film Puthiya Mugham, directed by Deepan has two heroines -- National Award-winning actress Priyamani and Meera Nandan.

"Here the storyline happens at various levels, which means that the backdrop changes from family, campus, romance and action," says the director.

Prithviraj sports the same look he has for Mani Ratnam's Ravan.

Prithviraj's is Krishnakumar, a Brahmin youth living at Kalpathi, a village near Palakkad. He is a nice young lad who plays the mridangam and teaches kids from the neighbourhood as well. He has a sweetheart there, a girl by the name of Sreedevi (Meera Nandan), the daughter of their family friend.

Things start changing in his life when he gets admission into an engineering college in Kochi. It is there that he meets Anjana (Priyamani) and Sudhi (Bala). Sudhi belongs to a wealthy family and his marriage to Anjana was almost fixed. But matters tend to change after Krishnakumar's entry.

"Krishnakumar was a rather shy, soft spoken young man when he joined the college. But things took an abrupt turn in his life pretty soon. As a result he undergoes a transformation and that is indeed the relevance of the title, Puthiya Mugham," says script writer M Sindhuraj, who has earlier written the script for Mulla.

"It is indeed thrilling to be part of action sequences and the adrenaline rush tends to change quite a bit. In this story, my character comes across a major change in his life, after he becomes part of certain issues. But he becomes involved in it, just by chance," says Prithviraj, who is busy canning a fight scene at the location.

He has also sung the title song for the film. Kaithapram's lines have been composed by Deepak Dev.

Puthiya Mugham is being produced under the banner of Bethestha Productions. The cast also includes Nedumudi Venu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Sai Kumar, Vijayaraghavan, Sudheesh, Kalasala Babu and Sona Nair. The locations include Kochi, Palakkad and Irinjalakuda. Bharani K Dharan wields the camera.
