As you click on, please do check out these stars singing a special song for their moms.
Mahi Gill, actress
Claim to fame: Dev D, Gulaal
Fondest Ma memory: My mother has always stood by me in whatever I did. There was a time when -- I was still in school in those days -- I sneaked the car out of the house, and unfortunately, had an accident. I was not hurt but the car was badly damaged.
I came home, and parked the car without telling anyone anything. Nobody knew who did it until one day, my mother found out I was the culprit. But she never scolded me. That meant a lot to me.
Favourite cine mom: Nirupa Roy, thanks to Deewar and Mard. Whenever you think of any mom roles, the first thing that comes to your mind is Nirupa Roy. It's probably because she always played Amitabh Bachchan's mom.
'Everybody felt their mom should be like Reema Lagoo'
Claim to fame: Iqbal, Dor,Om Shanti Om,
Fondest Ma memory: I was extremely bad in Maths. One day, my mother spent the whole day teaching me, but I just could not get it right. So she started hitting me with a ruler and soon the ruler broke.
Instead of crying, I started laughing and asked her what she would hit me with now that the ruler had broken. She started laughing too. But of course, after that, she started hitting me with her hand.
My mom is very special to me because she stood by me when I was struggling. I remember when I told her I want to join films, she said that she didn't know anyone who could help me and suggested that I look for a proper job instead.
But seeing my convictions, she stood by me and kept pushing me. She attended the first day first show of my first film.
Favourite cine mom: Everyone loves Nargisji in Mother India. But I also like Reemaji (Lagoo) in Maine Pyar Kiya. She was today's mom. Everybody felt their mom should be like that -- very friendly.
Recently I did a film Aage Se Right where Bharati Achrekar played my mom. She has her own charm. She's slightly over the top, but is too good.
'I have 75 Barbie dolls'
Claim to fame: The title track of Johnny Gaddar, Inshallah (Welcome), Move your body now (Kismat Konnection)
Fondest ma memory: I am a mama's girl. I came to Mumbai with my father, so I missed her a lot. Later, she gave up her job of teaching music, and shifted to Mumbai. She's sacrificed her career twice -- when I was born and later, when I was starting my career -- so I owe her a lot.
When I was small, my mother would buy me Barbie dolls every time I excelled in class or won a competition. Today, I have 75 Barbie dolls. They are still my priced possession.
Favourite cine moms: Kirron Kher in Rang De Basanti. She's very cute as a Punjabi mother.
'Mine is the simplest mother of all'
Kailash Kher, singer
Claim to fame: Allah Ke Bande (Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part 2), Ya Rabba (Salaam-e-Ishq), and albums, Kailasa and Jhoomo Re.
Fondest ma memory: All mothers are very nice and simple. But mine is the simplest mother of all. It's been seven years since my career started. But last year my mother lovingly asked me, 'bete tu aaj-kal kya kaam karta hai?'
Now, my songs are doing well, my photographs appear in the newspapers, I have got awards, and come on television, and yet my mother asks me that! I told her that I sing. So she said, 'Woh toh tu pehle bhi karta tha, aaj kal kya kaam karta hai?'
I changed many jobs and businesses before, so my mother would always be worried about me. It became very difficult for her to keep track of what I did. She's a very simple woman from a village.
Favourite cine mom: I liked Sarita Joshi's role in Dasvidaniya because her performance brought tears to my eyes.
'It was very difficult for mom to leave home and come with me to Mumbai'
Monali Thakur, singer
Claim to fame: Zara zara touch me (Race), Meow (Golmaal Returns)
Fondest ma memory: There were times when I fought with my mother. But we would patch up immediately. During my struggling days, mom and I came to Mumbai while dad stayed back in Kolkata. I know it was very difficult for her to leave home and come with me to Mumbai, and struggle, but she never sulked.
I would be out the whole day meeting people for a break and she would be waiting for me at home. I felt very guilty but she always made sure that I didn't feel that way.
Favourite cine mom: Kirron Kher in Dostana. She was a typical mother. She loved her son so much that she accepted him the way he was. I think all Indian mothers are like that.
'I was completely moved by the film, Stepmom'
Shilpa Rao, singer
Claim to fame: Khuda Jaane (Bachna Ae Haseeno), Saiyaan Re (Salaam-e-Ishq).
Fondest ma memory: My mother was always by my side whenever I did anything -- whether it was right or wrong. Mothers are like this I guess. They are the best people in the world. When I got my first Screen award, I gave it to her.
Favourite cine mom: I was completely moved by the film, Stepmom. I loved both Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts's characters. They were so selfless and generous, only thinking about the children. Susan's character was going to die and was worried what would happen to her children. On the other hand, Julia was trying her best to make sure the children did not feel their mother's absence when she dies.
'My mother is my biggest support'
Bela Shende, singer
Claim to fame: Man Mohana (Jodhaa Akbar).
Fondest ma memory: My mother is my biggest support. She's been with me at all my recordings. She knows what my mood is even before I realise it. When I come back from a hectic day, she makes my favourite dishes. She is equally inclined towards music, so all my songs are dedicated to her.
I remember the time I was giving my board exams, which clashed with the finals of Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge. It was a very crucial time in my life. I was very upset because both were very important for me. She understood my tension and would motivate me.
Favourite cine mom: Sulochana Latkar and Durga Khote.
'Whatever I am today is because of my mother'
Bappi Lahiri, singer/ composer
Claim to fame: Don't we all know!
Fondest ma memory: Whatever I am today is because of my mother, Bashabi Lahiri, a classical singer. She thought me singing. My father Aparesh was a good singer too, but I learnt more from my mother.
Favourite cine mom: Nargis in Mother India. That portrayal is the best till date, as it shows the best mother attitude. She can sacrifice anything for her children but at the same time if her son goes wrong, she can even kill him. The last scene when she dies is very touching.
'Nargisji was amazing in Mother India'
Anu Malik, singer/composer
Claim to fame: Needs no introduction!
Fondest ma memory: I have tears in my eyes whenever I think of this incident. I was nine when my parents were packing me off to a boarding school. My mother stood strong while I was crying. I thought that if she was cool, I should also be cool about it.
When I got into the car and turned back, I saw her break down and cry. I ran to her and hugged her tight. Even today when I hug her, I get vivid memories of that day.
Favourite cine mom: There are many, but my favourite is Nirupaji in Mard. She wasn't just acting, she lived the role. I also like Lalita Pawarji. They performed the mother roles with perfection. Even Nargisji was amazing in Mother India.
