It's that time of the year again when the French Riviera sees a lot of action. And no, we're not talking women in bikinis.
The 62nd Cannes International Film Festival kicks off today. The 12-day event will see a total of 20 films from different countries vie for the top honour -- the Palme d'Or award.
There are no Indian films in the competition but there is a strong Indian presence at the festival. There always has been. As the film festival starts today, let's take a look at this collection of pictures, reminding us of India's day in Cannes through the years.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
When one of the most beautiful woman in the world walked the red carpet in Cannes, people took notice. The L'oreal brand ambassador created quite a flutter with her gorgeous looks though her sense of style drew a lot of flak from the fashion police.
Nevertheless, Ash single-handedly put India on the map each and every time she flashed those hazel eyes and pearlies at the red carpet.

The sexy actress never dreamed that a bit part in Jackie Chan's The Myth could take her to Cannes in 2005.
Using her considerable charms, Mallika rose to the attention in these identical eye-popping outfits which had the media eating out of her hand.

Last year, Preity was spotted at the French Riviera in a slinky blue gown and a quirky short hairdo.
Before that, Preity was seen arriving at a luncheon honouring Bollywood stars at Chopard Lounge during the 59th Cannes film Festival in 2006.
The actress rocked both times.

She's not just a pretty face. The actress, who turned director with Firaaq, this year was a jury member along with Emir Kusturica and Mexican actress Salma Hayek [extreme right] during the 58th Festival de Cannes in 2005.
The dusky actress showed off a little bit of India when she appeared in a sari and typical Indian jewellery adoring her ears and neck.
