The Most Awkward Kisses in Bollywood

Last updated on: November 18, 2009 18:50 IST
Awkward filmi kisses

'A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become superfluous,' said actress Ingrid Bergman once.

Bollywood, too, looks at it as a gimmick or sensational factor to draw audiences' in or be the most-talked about aspect of a movie.

Only here the actors are much too self-conscious to lock lips convincingly.

And that's what results in an awkward, awful kiss.

While in the past few years, the quality of smooching kiss has got better with memorable ones like Saif Ali Khan-Preity Zinta (Salaam Namaste), Hrithik Roshan-Aishwarya Rai (Dhoom 2) and Ranbir Kapoor-Bipasha Basu (Bachna Ae Haseeno) but there's still no dearth of bad ones.

Here's a look at five such clumsy lip services which left the viewer tongue-tied for all the wrong reasons. Know any worse? Hit the message board.

Uday Chopra and Tanisha, Neal 'n' Nikki

This utterly forgettable caper was massively high on in-your-face sexuality. The idea was to create chemistry between two characters through Tanisha's barely-there wardrobe or Uday's shirtless moments.

And to add to the skin-show was an embarrassing lip lock between the twain. Hasty and klutzy, it's like someone forced them into demonstrating passion.

Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit, Vardi

Before hitting superstardom, Madhuri Dixit had to make do with miniscule parts in movies like Vardi. Wherein her only attribute was to slip into lustful clothes and be at the receiving end of Jackie Shroff's aggressive lips.

The usually elegant Shroff holds Dixit's head tightly as if it were a coconut and goes on a groping spree. Ouch? Absolutely!

Emraan Hashmi and Dia Mirza, Tumsa Nahi Dekha

He might be the original serial kisser. But in Tumsa Nahi Dekha, a wishy-washy remake of Pretty Woman, pretty Dia does the honours.

Only whether she's going for a kiss or grabbing a ball, it's hard to tell as Dia Mirza simply snatches the serial kisser's head to plant a forceful smooch on his lips. Some passion, this!

Kamal Haasan and Rani Mukerji, Hey Ram

Kamal Haasan's directorial debut was strange for a lot of reasons. Apart from its non-linear storyline, it features the legendary star indulging in a lot of craziness. For one, he bites his wife, played by Rani Mukerji, in the, er, butt.

And, then of course, there's the wild kissing sequence with her pinned against the piano. Hey Ram, indeed.

Akshay Kumar and Mamta Kulkarni, Sabse Bada Khiladi

Bollywood's definition of erotic can be seriously bizarre.

Picture this. Akshay Kumar's mouth. Mamta Kulkarni's mouth. Caught between the two is a poor slice of apple. That's like mixing dinner with pleasure. Then again, what else do you expect from a movie titled Sabse Bada Khiladi?
