Salman Khan

Salman Khan launched his new film Veer, which sees him turn scriptwriter for the first time. The story is based on Russian author Nikolai Gogol's novel Taras Bulba.

Set in 1875, Veer tells the story of the Pandhari tribe that takes on the might of the British Empire.

"Veer is inspired by the story of Taras Bulba which I saw [the 1962 film of the same name] as a child. The film tells the tale of a beautiful father-son relationship," said Salman while revealing Veer's first promo in Mumbai on Wednesday.

"I had written the film 20 years ago and it was my dream to direct it. Unfortunately, it could not be made because of budget constraints. Finally, my dream has turned into reality," the actor said, adding, "I had regretted not directing the film but after seeing director's Anil Sharma work in Veer, I am happy."

Had he made the film 20 years ago, Salman said he would have taken Sanjay Dutt or Kumar Gaurav in the title role.

The actor plans to blog about the film too, which is scheduled for release on January 22.
