'Nothing in common between the music of Love Aaj Kal and De Dana Dhan'

The year has been quite successful for singer-composer Pritam with Billu, New York, Love Aaj Kal and All the Best doing well at the music charts.

This November, he has three releases back to back -- Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Tum Mile and De Dana Dhan.

Pritam talks to Nithya Ramani about composing for De Dana Dhan, breaking into song every now and then on video. Over to Pritam:

De Dana Dhan is my sixth film with Priyan sir. I'm doing two more with him. I haven't worked with any other director as many times as I have worked with Priyan sir.

Post Dhoom, Priyan and Ratanji (Jain) of Venus Records gave me a break with Garam Masala. De Dana Dhan is a comeback of sorts of the trio. I'm looking forward to this film. I hope this month turns out to be the best of my life.

Chaloon Mein Tere Peeche Peeche might give you the feeling of Aaj Din Chaddeya from Love Aaj Kal because of Rahat (Fateh Ali Khan) saab. Apart from that, there is nothing in common between the music of Love Aaj Kal and De Dana Dhan. The music in Love Aaj Kal was very Punjabi inclined; this is not. I hope that common thing will be the sales because Love Aaj Kal's music is still going strong.

'I enjoy working with Priyan sir'

Pritam sings Ba Mulaiza

Priyan sir is very clear about what he wants and how he wants it. He just needs to listen to the song once before finalising it. He either likes a song or doesn't, which means he doesn't waste time listening to it over and over again. It is a different experience working with him. I have to be in a different world to be able to make music the way he wants it. I enjoy working with him.

Priyan sir wanted a calypso raga kind of a song for Ba Maliaza. It has been picturised like an item number. Mika, Dominque and I have sung this song, written by Irshaad.

The song Hotty Naughty Babe in Town is picturised on Neha Dhupia, who plays a crooner based in Singapore. Priyan sir wanted a folksy song for this, so I had to do a fusion of folk plus groove for it.

Since Neeraj Shridhar has always been a part of my album and he had no place to sing in any of these four songs, I asked him to write the lyrics for this song. He is very good with English lyrics and came up with the hook -- Hotty Naughty Babe in Town.

'Akshay Kumar can pull off anything'

Pritam sing Gale Lag Ja

We keep the actors in mind while picking the singers. With Akshay Kumar you can use any singer because he suits any voice -- be it the voice of Adnan Sami, Javed Ali, Kailash Kher or even Rahat. I think he has some trick for that. Generally, different voices don't match. But Akshay can pull off anything.

Working with Katrina Kaif has been great too. She is a very beautiful and talented actress. This is my third film with Katrina this year. I'm sure she is equally tense as I am about the response to this film. I have also done the music for her next film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.

Asish Patel wrote Gale Lag Ja and Javed Ali and Jyotsna have sung this song.
