Shilpa Rao sings Chalte Chalte from Pakeezah

Last updated on: September 24, 2009

Lata Mangeshkar has touched the lives of many GenNext singers.

Someone like Shilpa Rao, the young singer who has quickly made waves with songs like Khuda Jaane (Bachna Ae Haseeno) and Woh Ajnabee (The Train).

As we celebrate Lataji's 80th birthday on September 28, Shilpa sings her favourite Lata song -- the beautiful Chalte Chalte from Pakeezah, which was released in 1971, 13 years before Shilpa was born.

"Lataji is an institution," says Shilpa. "She is a legend and India is proud of her. The only time I have seen her was when she carrying her bags herself out of a hotel. She is so down-to-earth."
