Bollywood actioners 2010

It's a year when most of our cinema's heading towards drama and romance, and the biggest stars aren't really heading the action route just yet.

So far the year's only major action release, Veer, hasn't done too well at all, but that's not going to stop Bollywood.

Here's a quick look at the year's upcoming actioners:

Prince -- It's Showtime

Directed by Kookie V Gulati, this Friday's release Prince stars Vivek Oberoi as a leatherclad hero who can't remember who he is -- neither can the audiences remember the last time they saw a solo Oberoi film.

The trailers try really hard to be slick and promise some sort of plot about how Oberoi's crime-fighting Prince will die if he can't figure out what's happening, but our attention's grabbed by bombshells Nandana Sen, Aruna Shields and Neeru Bajwa, who apparently all play the same illusory character, Maya.

Knock Out

Director Mani Shankar impressed us with his first film, 16 December, a taut thriller, and we're kinda intrigued by the casting of his latest, pitting Sanjay Dutt alongside the always-interesting Kangna Ranaut.

The film also stars Irrfan Khan and Gulshan Grover, and is slated to release on May 14. There's not much known about the plot yet, but let's hope for the best.

Ravanaa

All we know is that Mani Ratnam's long-hyped project casts Abhishek Bachchan in the title role as the King of Lanka, and Govinda as Hanuman, but the rest of the details in this contemporarised version of the epic are pretty sketchy.

The starcast is solid, though: Aishwarya Rai, Bipasha Basu and Nikhil Dwivedi all feature.

Once Upon a Time in Mumbai

Director Milan Luthria's ambitious project aims to take on the entire rise of the Mumbai underworld, mapping its growth from early smuggling days to current international terrorism links.

Ajay Devgan and Emraan Hashmi are the main leads, an interesting combination for sure.

Devgan reportedly plays a character based on Haji Mastan with Hashmi as Dawood, but the truly captivating info is in the fact that Kangna Ranaut plays a character modeled on the Madhubala-lookalike, Sona, who Haji Mastan married out of love for the iconic actress.

Dabangg

Abhinav Kashyap's directorial debut sees Salman Khan as a corrupt cop in the badlands of Uttar Pradesh. The film is supposed to be a crackling actioner, and much praise has already met Kashyap's script.

The film also stars Shatrughan Sinha's daughter Sonakshi, Sonu Sood, Mahie Gill and Vinod Khanna, among others. It's an Arbaaz Khan production, and Salman himself has been backing the film to the hilt.

Then again, isn't that what he did with Veer too?
