'Getting into a bikini was no big deal'

Bollywood heroines may have done it time and again but wearing a bikini still makes the news.

So this Friday's release Help seems to make more headlines for its lead actress Mugdha Godse's bikini scenes than its horror genre. The film also stars Bobby Deol.

The Fashion star talks to Srabanti Chakraborty about what to expect in Help.

Everyone is talking about the bikini scene, and how sexy you look in it. How comfortable are you in a bikini?

I have been a model so getting into a two piece and shooting was no big deal. In fact, I wore a two piece in Fashion also. It's just that my legs were covered with a wrap-around.

I wasn't conscious about wearing a bikini as it was a script requirement. But I do have to work hard to keep my body in shape.

'This is the first time I am playing a double role'

You have been lucky, getting such opportunities to play different kinds of roles in your career.

I agree. It has been a wonderful journey so far. Fashion was a glamorous role with some underlying emotions, All The Best was a full fledged comedy, Jail was a serious movie, and Help is a horror flick. I am learning a lot from each film.

Why take up a horror film?

After I finished Fashion and All The Best, I was shooting for Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail. That's when director Rajeev Virani came to me and read this script. My first reaction was very spontaneous because I have never tried this genre.

I also thought that since this will be my fourth film, it won't be too early either since most actresses try horror films once they are established. So in that way, I was scared.

But the script helped me cement my decision to go ahead with this film. This is also the first time I am playing a double role in a film.

A lot of research has gone into the making of this film. If you see the promos, you will come to know about the stages of fear a human being has. The reason a person gets possessed is explained in this film.

I cannot reveal the entire story. It is a love story and a supernatural thriller. Help is the story of Vic (Bobby Deol) and his wife Pia (Mugdha), who fight a malicious and wicked spirit.

'I am scared of water'

Do you believe in the supernatural?

Yes. If there is a good part, then there is a bad part of the supernatural as well. I don't call every spirit bad as they have their own circumstances. One should read on this and then be judgmental. I want to read more on this in future whenever I have time.

Are you scared of ghosts? What makes you scared the most?

[Smiles] It changes everyday! I had a problem of vertigo and was scared of heights. But after I tried skydiving, it went away. I am also scared of water.

'I thought I looked quite scary at times'

How was it being paired opposite Bobby Deol?

He is very down-to-earth and composed. Everyone asks me about being paired against a star whose last few films have not done well. I am just three films old so I cannot really demand and ask for my favourite heroes!

Jokes apart, my point is when you are doing a film with an established star and if that fails, you are back to square one. There is no guarantee that just because you are with an established star, your film will be a hit. For me, script is the most important. Every Friday makes a difference for every single actor in this industry.

Did you have any scary incidents during the making of Help?

Like in horror films, the lead actors in Help sport minimum make up too. I thought I looked quite scary at times. So after every shot when I was roaming around with that make up and talking to the cast and crew, it was scary, funny and weird! But I was not the only one looking scary -- others were suffering the same way too.

Which are your favourite horror films?

I liked The Ring a lot. When I saw 1408, I got really scared and started screaming. My favourite Hindi horror movie was Ram Gopal Verma's Raat. I used to like Zee Horror Show as well.

'I am satisfied that after a couple of films people have said that Mugdha Godse can act'

Are you happy with what you have achieved till date?

When I was doing Fashion, I never thought of the consequences. I had done enough of modeling by then and thought of taking a break and trying my luck in films. Luckily, it turned out to be a big break for me.

So I'm happy and content with whatever offers and reactions I am getting from the industry. I believe in quality and not quantity. Otherwise I could have done 10 films by now. I am satisfied that after a couple of films people have said that Mugdha Godse can act. That is a great gift to me.

But the industry at large still feels that models cannot act...

I don't think this holds true any more [smiles]. I guess many of us from the modeling world have proved this wrong.

What kind of roles do you want to take up in future?

I love the romantic genre. I am doing a romantic comedy called Will You Marry Me with Rajeev Khandelwal. I want to do a nice love story.
