It was a night when Paa and 3 Idiots dominated.
The event in question was the Nokia 16th annual STAR Screen Awards, held at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) grounds on Saturday.
Of the 21 films that have been selected for nominations for awards in various categories, Paa -- starring Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek, and Vidya Balan -- and 3 Idiots -- starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Boman Irani -- won the most awards.
Paa bagged five awards, including Best Actor award for Amitabh, Best Actress for Vidya Balan, Best Child Actor for Pratik and Best Supporting Actress for Arundhati Nag (who played Amitabh's grandmother in the film).
Earlier on Friday, Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra received the best actor and best actress award at the 5th Apsara Film and Television Producers Guild Awards.
Rajkumar Hirani won the Best Director award for 3 Idiots, and shared the Best Screenplay award with Abhijat Joshi.
The movie won the Best Film award as well as Best Performance in a Comic role for Omi Vaidya (who played the hilarious Chatur) and Best Actor in a Negative role award for Boman Irani.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan's Ghajini was adjudged the best film while its director A R Murugadoss bagged the best director and the best screenplay awards at the Apsara awards.
Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Paduoke hold their Chevrolet Heartbeat of the Nation award. Shahid got his for his role in Kaminey while Deepika got it for her performance in Love Aaj Kal at the Apsara awards function.
It wasn't Shahid's only win, though. The actor won the Best Actor (Popular) award. Interestingly, his ex, Kareena Kapoor won the same award in the actress category for 3 Idiots as well as Kurbaan.
We've always known that Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol make a great pair. And now it's official. The DDLJ pair took home the award for Best Jodi of the decade at the Screen Awards. Here, she is seen with her My Name Is Khan director Karan Johar at the Apsara awards function.
Get this: the Best Jodi (Star Plus) is Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan! We guess wife Aishwarya has to settle for number two.
Abhishek also won an Apsara special award for most public appearance to promote Delhi 6.
A R Rahman won the Best Music award for Delhi 6, which starred Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor.
Though Abhishek did not shake a leg on stage at the Apsara awards show, Ash and he did share a light moment with Shah Rukh Khan.
While most of Bollywood attended the Screen awards, Katrina Kaif, who won Best Entertainer of the Year, didn't make it.
Hotties Sameera Reddy, Amrita Rao and Neha Dhupia made up for her absence.
Preity Zinta and Arjun Rampal have not been seen on screen too often recently. Here, they announce the winners of the remaining Apsara awards which include Ajay Devgan (Best comic Role for All the Best, Amol Gupte (Best actor in negative role for Kaminey, Pritam Chakraborty (Best Music award for Love Aaj Kal, and Jaideep Sahni (Best Lyrics for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi).
Meanwhile the other winners at the Screen awards included Kavita Sethi (Best Female Singer for her song Ek tara from Wake Up Sid) and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (Best Male Singer award for Aaj din chadeya from Love Aaj Kal).
Love Aaj Kal director Imitiaz Ali bagged the Best Story award for the same.
