One would expect Meghna Kumar, a visually challenged girl from Jhansi to feel a little down after being eliminated from Indian Idol 5 on Monday.

But the 17-year-old is far from sad as she excitedly tells Rajul Hegde about her experiences and future plans. Excerpts:

How was your experience on the show?

I come from a small town and for me to reach this level was a big achievement. It has been a learning experience and I feel blessed to be part of one of the biggest music reality shows on television.

The judges have always supported me and I followed every comment of theirs and made sure that I improvised in my next performance. I was very nervous when I gave my auditions but now I am confident after performing on Idol.

Why did you participate in the show?

Since I am 17-years-old, I could not take part in other reality shows because their cut off age is 18. Plus Indian Idol is a big platform to show off one's talent.

When did you actually start learning music?

Five to six years back doctors told me that my eyesight would weaken with time. Now I have almost lost my sight. So I decided to learn music, which can help me in my life. I have been taking classical lessons from my guruji Sri Samir Bhalerao. Now it's music which motivates me.

Did lack of vision affect your performances?

Yes. I feel I could have interacted better with the audience if I had been able to see them. Plus I could have moved all over the stage.

Can you tell us something about your family?

I live with my parents. I have a younger brother who is in school. My family is my pillar of strength.

Did you make friends in Indian Idol?

Yes. Bhumi Trivedi, Tia Kar and Shahsi Suman are my good friends. I first met Bhoomi just before the theatre round. She asked me to join her group because she had seen me at the rehearsals. Later I became friends with Shashi and Tia. I will definitely miss them, the judges and the stage.

Who is your favourite judge?

A lot of people have been asking me this question. But I don't think I will be able to pick one because all three are my favourites.

What next?

I am planning to shift to a bigger city like Lucknow or Mumbai for better opportunities. I want get trained in classical music. I am looking forward to do concerts and also get into play black singing.
