Will you root for these IPL Rockstars?

What do you get when you combine cricket and music? Well, you get what's its called IPL Rockstar, a television show featuring 12 singers who will vie for the title right in the IPL cricket stadiums.

The show commencing on March 13 will spread over seven weeks. The singers will perform in front of a live audience and judges Sukhwinder Singh and Kailash Kher. Rapper Hard Kaur will be the host.

The performances will be held before the cricket action begins. These shows will then be telecast on Colors.

Rajul Hegde caught up with seven of the 12 contestants to find out more.

Sandeep Acharya

After winning Indian Idol 2, Sandeep performed in many stage shows around the world. The most memorable shows for him are the ones in US with fellow Indian Idol finalist Aditi Paul.

He also got an award for his first album from his favourite actor Amitabh Bachchan, a moment he says he will cherish for ever. So far he has worked in four albums and sung for Sunidhi Chauhan and Daboo Mallik. 

He says he enjoys playback singing though live shows are where the money is at. Which is one reason why we're seeing him here.

You may not recognise her but this young girl has sung for films like Rang de basanti, Karam, Salami Ishq and Hallo Bol.

But it was winning the reality show, Junoon Kuch Kar Dikhaane Ka that made Harshdeep a household name.

For this singer of Hindi, English Punjabi and Urdu songs, live shows are a great way to connect with the audience.

The IPL teams she is rooting for are Delhi, Punjab and Mumbai.

The 21-year-old participant of Indian Idol 2 went on to participate in another reality show, Junoon. She also anchored two seasons of a Bengali reality show before auditioning for Rockstar.

Like Sandeep Acharya, this young playback singer has done live shows in India and abroad.

After acting in Balaji Telefilms' soap Koi Aano Ko Hain, she was flooded with offers but refused as she says she cannot stike a balance between singing and acting.

The young lad has to thank his father for getting him interested in music. His father is the one who urged him to take part in reality shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Nigam even hosted the show later on.

The exposure did Nigam a world of good. Madhur Bhandarkar noticed him and picturised a song on Nigam in his film Corporate.

Nigam also sang the title song of Kitni Mohabat Hain (soap) which became a big hit and a song for Salman Khan.
