Rajnikanth made a rare trip to Mumbai to show off his new release Robot to the Hindi film industry. And a large chunk of the industry turned up to watch the film that has already become a blockbuster.

Wearing a cream kurta, Rajnikanth walked in just as it started raining. Immediately a number of umbrellas unfurled to make sure the Superstar did not get wet.

Stars walked the red carpet, as the media jostled for space to catch a glimpse.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan - who romanced the Tamil Superstar in the film - arrived with her husband Abhishek Bachchan.

The film's director Shankar made a relatively quieter entry.

Amitabh Bachchan came in surrounded by gun-wielding security guards.

'Lock kiya jaye' screamed a fan to the star, who is ready to launch Kaun Banega Crorepati on his birthday, October 11.

As he made his way up the escalator, Amitabh blew a flying kiss at a group of enthusiastic girls, and made their day.

Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao walk down the red carpet to watch the film that apparently has beaten the box office opening weekend collections of Khan's previous blockbuster 3 Idiots.

Director Rajkumar Hirani also arrived for the screening.

Looking pretty in jeans and pink top, Urmila Matondkar smiles for the camera.

Shriya Saran, who starred opposite Rajnikanth in his previous superhit Sivaji: The Boss, wore a bright red dress to the screening while Tabu chose a black dress for the night.

Sunny Deol seemed to come straight from the sets of a film. He was accompanied by his father Dharmendra. Hema Malini, looking young in jeans, came in separately.

Karan Johar came in with his mother. Other directors like Subhash Ghai and Ramesh Sippy also attended the screening.

Yesteryear villain Prem Chopra made a dignified entrance, as did Vinod Khanna and his wife.
