The most watched star show on TV is...

Last updated on: October 21, 2010 12:47 IST
Salman Khan

The TRPs or Television Rating Points for the big ticket shows are in.

So did Amitabh Bachchan beat Salman Khan on the small screen, or did Rakhi Sawant have the last laugh?

We take a look at the performances of Bigg Boss 4, Kaun Banega Crorepati 4, MasterChef India, Rakhi Ka Insaf and the recently-concluded Khatron Ke Khiladi on their opening nights.

Bigg Boss 4
Rating: 4.83

Andar maja toh baahar majedaar promised the enfant terrible of Bollywood. Salman Khan had swapped channels from Sony Entertainment Television (Dus Ka Dum) to Colors.

He was also taking over from Amitabh 'pop philosopher' Bachchan claiming to bring his own candid, saucy, sparkling personality to the murky goings-on inside the Bigg Boss House. And he lived up to the expectations as he welcomed the 14 guests in his inimitable bindaas style, bringing the house down with his antics.

While the daily episodes have been a let-down, hardly any maja, 'bhai's' weekend visits are proving to be quite a riot. Majedaar? Absolutely!

Amitabh Bachchan

Rating 6.21

He came, he saw, he conquered the small screen 10 years ago when he gently cajoled nervously smiling participants in his trademark baritone, 'Chaliye, hum aur aap khelte hain Kaun Banega Crorepati'.

Three seasons later (the third one being with Shah Rukh Khan Khan as host), the show returned with Mr B on a different channel.

Sony pulled out all the stops to make the return of KBC a memorable one and it made a thumping rating of 6.21 on the opening night.

Yes, Bachchan mania still reigns supreme.

Masterchef India

Akshay Kumar
Rating 2.59

He was upset, goes the grapevine, when Colors unceremoniously dropped him and brought in his alleged ex-flame Priyanka Chopra to host the third edition of Khatron Ke Khiladi.

So Akshay Kumar decided to go back to his roots to the time when he cooked and waited tables in Bangkok. Star Plus offered him the Indian edition of Masterchef India.

Two episodes down, the show turned out to be a highly dramatic version with all the rona dhona and high-voltage drama of its international original.

The tadka is missing though AK is trying hard to be the affable, yet no-nonsense host. It's early days yet but boss, first impression is usually the last one!

Rakhi Ka Insaf

Rakhi Sawant

Rating 1.9

Imagine is definitely letting its imagination run riot. The channel first unleashed a coy Rakhi Sawant on hapless viewers with a farce of a swayamvar and just when we thought she had outdone herself, they got her again as a justice peddling nautanki.

The first two episodes were cringe worthy as dressed in a halter neck gown, she screamed and did full on tamasha trying to dispense insaf to participants who outshone her in the histrionics department.

It is entertainment truly at the grassroot, oops gutter level. Someone stop her!

Khatron Ke Khiladi 3

Priyanka Chopra
Rating: 5.49

The sexy Priyanka Chopra and her 13 macho khiladis replaced former KKK host Akshay Kumar and his gang of girls. So expectations were definitely high.

While Priyanka delivered a 'hit' first episode (Akshay's earlier two outings had fetched a 1.72 and 4.37 respectively), the show eventually lost its appeal (it closed at 2.72 compared to Akshay's 3.26 and 4.39 for season one and two respectively).
