George Clooney's The American has come out toppers at the weekend box office.
The grown-up thriller grossed 13 million dollars, per estimates.
Despite its second-place finish, Takers with 11.5 million dollars took honours as the Top 10's biggest theater-for-theater hit.
Lindsay Lohan's Machete, debuted in third place, with 11.3 million dollars -- a good bit of business for a 25 million dollar movie, reports E! Online.
Rounding up the top five are The Last Exorcism and Drew Barrymore's Going the Distance, costarring Justin Long with 7.6 million and 6.9 million dollars respectively.

Rapper Kanye West has written a song for Taylor Swift to present her when they meet again at this year's MTV VMA Awards on September 12.
'I wrote a song for Taylor Swift that's so beautiful and I want her to have it,' People magazine quoted him as saying on Twitter.
'If she won't take it then I'll perform it for her,' he added,
Nearly a year since he first apologized to Swift, the hip-hop artist is still offering up I'm sorries, calling her 'justa lil girl with dreams like the rest of us' on Twitter.
'She deserves the apology more than anyone,' he tweeted.
He has also thanked the creators of Twitter for making a public platform for expression.
'We're both artist[s] and the media and managers are trying to get between us. Everyone wants to capitalize off this [in] some way,' he added.
Former Spice Girls member Victoria Beckham has finally joined the numerous other stars on Twitter.
Posh, 36, who joined the social networking site on September 3, posted her first tweet about going to the UK.
'Finally!! Leaving for UK tomorrow. Airport is my runway!!! Can't wait for fashion week! In love and light x VB,' the Daily Mail quoted her as writing.
She also tweeted her first picture, which was of her bulldog Coco, complete with red nail covers and a pink bow around her neck, writing "Check out the red nails!!"
