A flight hijack, inspired from real life, is the theme of Nagarjuna's latest bi-lingual Gaganam in Telugu and Payanam in Tamil.

The film is directed by Radhamohan whose last film Abhiyum Naanum with Trisha and Prakashraj was highly appreciated. But the most acclaimed film of the director was Mozhi where Jyothika played a deaf-mute girl.

Nagarjuna plays a commando in the film. Gaganam is produced by Dil Raju in Telugu and Prakash Raj in Tamil.

"The film is a bi-lingual with a common hero. I wanted someone who will suit the role and can play it in both languages. Nagarjuna is familiar in both Telugu and Tamil and fitted the role well. It was nice of him to accept the role," says director Radhamohan.

Contrary to popular notion, the film is not based on the famous Kandahar hijack incident.

Radhamohan states that, "The movie is a mix of reality and imaginary situation and not based on Kandahar. Gaganam is a different film, a very character-oriented film with no songs."

A major part of the film was shot in Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. "We erected a huge set of the aircraft and the airport here and shot the film. Besides, the film was also shot in Kulu-Manali and Chennai," adds Radhamohan.

K V Guhan wields the camera, Praveen Mani composes the background score and art is handled by K Kabir.

The others in the cast include Brahmanandam, Sana Khan, Dr Bharat Reddy and Poonam Kaur.

The film is slated for release in November.
