When Adele was recently named the latest gay icon, it struck us that India hasn't had one in a while!

So we asked you, dear readers, to pick YOUR favourite film celebrity, who could be titled the desi gay icon.

And you threw around a rather curious bunch of names.

While we sit back and applaud your imagination, take a look at your candidates!

Shakti Kapoor

It's rather surprising to see actor and former Bigg Boss inmate Shakti Kapoor figure in this list.

Kapoor, who's been in the news more for controversies than his acting roles, could do with some accolades coming his way.

Zeenat Aman

Yesteryear sex symbol Zeenat Aman also made it to the readers' wish list.

Be it her bikini bod or the ease with which she carried off the most daring outfits, Zeenat Aman will forever be the ultimate pin-up for her fans.

Quite refreshing to see that the usual suspects have been given a miss, for a change.

Suriya

One of the most successful Tamil actor of recent times, Suriya finds his place in this list too.

Admired for his buff body and intense acting, he has been a part of several Tamil superhit films like Kaakha Kaakha, Ghajini and Singham.

Dhanush

Another Tamil actor, Kolaveri Di sensation Dhanush also figures in the list.

Despite his unconventional looks, Dhanush has found success and fame and even won a National Award for his 2011 film Aadukalam where he played a cock fight trainer.

Hrithik Roshan

With a Greek god-like body and commendable acting chops, Hrithik Roshan is one of the most popular choices for the title.

His last film Agneepath that released this year only strengthened his position.

Arjun Rampal

This model-turned-actor may have taken to portraying negative characters on screen these days but he still remains one of the most popular hot bods in Bollywood.

We'll see him next with Kareena Kapoor in Heroine.

Shah Rukh Khan

This list would be incomplete without Shah Rukh Khan, who brought all the gay jokes upon himself with his hilarious Kanta Ben sequence with costar Saif Ali Khan in Kal Ho Naa Ho.

In his signature style, he's been a sport about it.

Karan Johar

And Shah Rukh Khan's best buddy Karan Johar can't be far behind too.

The filmmaker, who's a bit of a social butterfly in the Bollywood party circuit, has been cagey about his personal life for quite  a long time.
