'Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.' Just like her classic style Coco Chanel could sum up the essence of fashion in such few words.

How we wish the glamour ladies of Bollywood would embrace this mantra and stop making the same old red carpet gaffes over and over again.

While the likes of Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut, Sonam Kapoor and Kalki Koechlin rocked the trend scene with their versatile wardrobe, these 10 stars disappointed us with tactastic appearances more than once to find a spot in Bollywood's Worst Dressed of 2012.  

10. Alia Bhatt

Turns out Karan Johar's teenage discovery is nothing like the spunky fashionista of Student of the Year.

Such a pity to see a vivacious Alia Bhatt in blah dresses and bland colours that do absolutely nothing to bring forth her fun personality. 

It's true; youth IS wasted on the young.

As much as we love the straight-talking Gul Panag, it's a shame to see this dimpled beauty in clothes that are best left neglected on a rack. 

While we try and get over that puffy Shahenshahesque sleeve on a sequined LBD or a see through white sari-halter neck combo better suited for rain songs, its time Gul made some real effort.

Dear Madhuri, it's not the 80s. It's not the 90s.

Heck, it's not even 2000s anymore. 

So will you please dump that dated (read gaudy) wardrobe and hairstyle of yours and be the fashion icon you have the potential to be?

The leggy Reddy girl keeps alternating between fabulous and frumpy.

And here's proof of her demonstrating the latter in a flashy, fringed sari and regular pant and shirt gone wrong courtesy inappropriate inner wear.

You'd think by now celebs should be familiar with flash photography, right? 

While her tip-top cousin Priyanka is a regular on all Best-Dressed lists, Parineeti Chopra is still struggling to up her style quotient.

It's not necessary what looks good on paper will look good on you too.

The Ishaqzaade star finds this out the hard way after a series of ill-fitted outings that do no favours to her body type.

What's with pretty women and drab clothes?

The Rockstar debutant finds her slender frame lost in dowdy silhouettes too often to ignore.

It's amazing how some celebrities dress up badly both on and off screen.

If only Jiah Khan invested in some good fashion magazines, the outcome would be far more tolerable than these monstrosities.

The Aiyyaa star rarely makes a mistake when draped in a Sabyasachi but ask her to go western and she'll fill you with deep regret.

It was a sad day for the red carpet when this beautiful lady picked a silk balloon to land.

And even sadder when she reduced a stunning dress into layers of designer fabric forgetting the golden rule of fashion: Wear your clothes; don't let your clothes wear you.  

Our heart goes out to the mighty red carpet that has to endure the consistently ridiculous wardrobe of Mallika Sherawat.

In two back-to-back nude (ahem, colour of her gown) appearances, the jaded sex symbol tries too hard or exposes too much and achieves nothing except a well-deserved top spot of Bollywood's WORST dressed actress.
